Are you all familiar with the wonder that is Paperback Swap and the even greater wonder that is Swap A DVD? If there are two websites that I would hate to have to live without, it would be these two sites.
The idea behind these sites is so simple. You list movies that you no longer need to keep at your house, then someone requests them, you accept the request, press a button to print off the packaging papers (complete with the recipient's address printed on it), stick on some stamps and drop it in the mailbox. When the person receives it, you get a credit in your account. You can even print postage directly onto the packaging, which earns you an instant credit for mailing the DVD.
We love Swap A DVD in our home, especially for DVDs for Ethan. He loses interest in his shows fairly quickly, so I'm always looking for something new and fun for him to watch. So, if your child is going through a Thomas the Tank Engine stage, you can get Thomas DVDs. When he or she moves on to loving Curious George instead, just list the Thomas DVDs and get some Curious George ones!
The DVDs usually arrive within a week of requesting them. You pay postage on the DVDs you send out, so when you request a DVD it's totally free!
Paperback Swap works pretty much the same way, and includes hardcover books as well. Again, I've used this to get so many kids' books for our home library. I hate spending $10-15 on a book that Ethan might not like, I'd much rather trade a book that's been gathering dust on my bookshelf to get something new.
So, if you're looking to save costs on entertainment for your family, definitely check these two sites out. I've been using them both for several years now and have had nothing but positive experiences with both.
I was not compensated in any way for this post- just wanted to write about something that I use and love!
