What's your first reaction when I say "wool clothing"? Hot? Scratchy? Itchy? Lumpy? Old-fashioned? I have to admit, those are the things that come to my mind. Those words and memories of being forced to wear a hand-me-down wool sweater when I was a kid. I have to itch my arms just from thinking about it.
As it turns out, things have changed. Wool isn't just for sweaters and socks anymore, and wool clothes aren't the the scratchy, hot garments that they once were. At least not the clothes that Ramblers Way offers. Ramblers Way is a company started by Tom and Kate Chappell. Tom Chappell is the "Tom" from "Tom's of Maine" fame, a well-known company that makes natural personal care products. Ramblers Way uses wool from the American Rambouillet sheep, which is farmed and produced in the United States. According to the Ramblers Way website, this wool is used to make clothes that are both warm and cool and are wearable year-round. They're also long-lasting, and fully washable (thanks to enzyme treatment for shrinkage). In addition, they're natural, non-synthetic and chemical-free. And, did you know that wool naturally resists wrinking and soiling and is flame resistant? As a mom, that pretty much sounds like my dream garment.
Ramblers Way offers some really nice pieces of clothing on their site, for both men and women. I especially like the scoop neck women's top, it looks so soft and pretty. There are a number of other shirts for sale as well, and you can even buy underwear! Similar products are available for men.
I really enjoyed learning about wool and seeing all the great wool products available on the Ramblers Way website. I've definitely "re-imagined" wool now- no longer will I think lumpy and scratchy, but will think stylish, comfortable and practical!
