Review and giveaway (closed): Corked

Congrats to my winners:  Rebecca O ;The Plumber's Wife; Krystal; Misusedinnocence; MusicalThought

There are a number of words that immediately came to mind when I read the book Corked.  Words like raw, honest, intimate, real.  Corked is the story of a daughter's journey to learn about her father- to truly know him and his stories.  Her plan for obtaining this knowledge? A two-week road trip through the wine regions of Alsace, Burgundy, Cotes du Rhone and the Languedoc.

Honestly, reading this book made me feel uncomfortable at times. I felt like I'd been picked up and dropped into a very personal conversation. The author is open and honest about a recent tragic accident that she was involved in and a breakup of a relationship that she is still reeling from.  Other topics touched on in the book- the intense dynamics of a father/daughter relationship, the Holocaust, and a false imprisonment.

That all being said, I really am glad I read this book. The writing is spectacular with so many wonderful descriptions that you feel like you're in the car with this pair or sitting and sampling fabulous French wine at their side. I tend to speed-read most books, but with this book I had to slow down and really take in every word.

You can purchase Corked at the Hachette Book Group website or at Amazon. Also, 5 of you will get to win copies! (US mailing addresses only).

Mandatory entry- must be done first for extra entries to count.

This book sounds fantastic. I'd love to read it because the reviews on amazon are quite mixed, so I'd like to give it a shot and form my own opinion.

I did what Jill did and read the reviews on Amazon. They were very mixed. It definitely makes me wonder if I'd like the book or not, but I love reading books of all kinds.

This book sounds like something I'd tear right through! I'm taking a break from school right now, so I'm reading as much as I can. I got so burned out being an English major (I recently switched to Radiography) that I haven't read voraciously in years! I've been so happy to be reading again, that I want to keep the trend going...and I'd love to add this book to my list!!

Sometimes it's good to break away from your every day life and adventure into someone elses. It appears that this book will do just that and I would like to read it.

I want to read this book because I love seeing how place (the wine regions of Alsace, Burgundy, Cotes du Rhone and the Languedoc) influences the story... though it usually makes me want to travel :)

Since it's unlikely I'll ever get to France, I think I'd enjoy reading about the wine region and the countryside there.
