Lately it seems that every time I turn on the TV, I see a preview of Date Night Movie. This movie is coming out on April 9 (that's this Friday!) and it stars two of the funniest people on television, Tina Fey and Steve Carell. The general idea of this movie is that a bored, suburban couple decides to mix up their usual date night and go to a fancy restaurant in the city instead of their usual local restaurant. Due to a case of mistaken identity, they also end up trading their usual quiet date night for a night of breaking and entering, a car chase, a shootout and a showdown with an underworld boss at a strip club.
We've seen a few clips from this movie so far, and if the entire movie is even remotely as funny as the clips, then this is going to be a classic. Last night we watched the strip club scene and about fell off the couch with laughter. Steve Carell and Tina Fey are such a brilliant pairing- they both excel in the area of subtle humor and ad libbing, and they have great chemistry. And I like the idea of this movie too- according to a New York Times article about the movie (link below) it's a movie in which the couple has a great adventure and comes out of it with some scratches and also with their ardor renewed. The NY Times article quotes the screenwriter of Date Night as saying that this movie is a “a love letter to marriage." I think there are far too few movies that show the good side of marriage, so I'm glad this one does that!
Daniel and I are really hoping to be able to find a babysitter so that we can go on a date night of our own and see this movie. I can't wait to see it! Remember, it opens this Friday night, so go see it on opening weekend! Until then, here's the trailer for your enjoyment.
