My daughter Vivian is a very motivated little girl. Most of the motivation in her life is directed to two activities- 1) figuring out how to chase her brother and get whatever toy he is playing with, and 2) chasing the cats and pulling their tails. She's just over 10 months old and has been pulling herself up and trying desperately to figure out how to walk for weeks. Unfortunately for her (but perhaps happily for Ethan and the cats), she doesn't quite have the balancing part down, so walking is just beyond her reach.
Enter a very cool baby device- the Juppy Baby Walker. Thanks to my involvement at the Product Review Place, I found out about this piece of baby gear and received one for review. Rather than try to explain what the Juppy looks like, I'll just post the picture of Vivian in her Juppy here so you can see for yourselves.
As you can see, it's like a vest with a zipper up the front, and a bottom part to keep the baby in place. Similar to the shape of a baby swing at the park. Attached to that are two adjustable handles for the parent to hold on to. It was really easy to get Vivian into the Juppy- just undo the zipper and slide the baby in. The handles are super-easy to adjust, so the adult holding on can support the baby without bending over. No more of that awkward baby-training walk, where the parent is bent over and the baby is holding on to hands over his or her head. Which is great for everyone- no more sore backs and no more having to train the baby to walk without holding on to a hand.
We've been using the Juppy for several weeks now and are really impressed by it. Vivian's not entirely caught on to the idea of walking yet, but in the Juppy she can practice standing upright and getting her balance. This is an entirely different thing for her from standing while holding on to the couch, and it's something she needs to figure out before she can get busy with the cat/big brother chasing.
And for us adults, the Juppy is such a big improvement from leaning over and holding on to the baby- which means more time for Vivian to practice walking, since we're not in a rush to have her sit down again. The adjustable straps are great when you have adults of different heights walking with the baby, everyone can have the handles at just the right place for their comfort.
Daniel and Vivian with the Juppy
According to the Juppy website, this product is not only good for the parent's health, it also should eliminate nursemaid's elbow, a common injury to children where the arm is pulled on and the elbow dislocated.
So far we're really impressed with the Juppy! I'll write again later to update you on how Vivian's doing with the walking, but so far we're believers!
Some other information- the Juppy is machine-washable, made of sturdy material, can be customized with your child's name, and comes in a handy storage pouch! It sells for $19.95 at the Juppy website. Visit the Juppy website for more information on ordering and customization.
And I have some good news! I have in my possession a Juppy to give away to one of you lucky readers! (US mailing addresses only, please).
