Honestly, I don't remember a lot about my early years in school. I know I generally liked my classes and teachers and going to school, but overall it's a blur! There is one thing that I remember clearly though- field trips! I think we all remember the excitement of a change in the daily schedule, the fun of getting on a bus and heading to a museum or the symphony, the thrill of actually getting to eat lunch somewhere other than the smelly school cafeteria. Ah, happy memories!
Field trips give kids the opportunity to learn and take part in hands-on experiences and see things that they can't see in the classroom. Unfortunately, according to a 2009 report from The American Association of School Administrators, over the course of the current school year, the number of school districts that eliminate field trips will increase by 56%. That's a lot of kids affected.
Lunchables Lunch Combinations has started a program to help deserving kids go on inspiring, educational field trips with their new program, "Field Trips For All" This is part of Lunchable Team's new initiative called Project Potential, which is designed to provide kids with experiences that they might not otherwise have.
So, how can you help? If you're 6 years of age or older, just go to http://www.lunchables.com/potential/ and nominate a great classroom. From all nominations received, 50 classrooms will be selected to go on an inspiring, educational experience. Nominate your kids' classrooms or the classroom of a teacher friend. I'm going to get some information and nominate the classroom of a child from church- who will you nominate? Leave me a comment and let me know! And please spread the word about this great opportunity!
Here's a video about an "Alien Field Trip" that a group of 5th graders from LA got to take. Looks like fun!
