CD review and giveaway (closed): What Are the Odds?

Congrats to my winner: skgaff

Before I hop into my review, I'd like to offer a word of advice to other parents.  When your child gets a new CD to listen to, do NOT listen to it for the first time while driving.  Last Friday I was driving to pick up my husband in rush hour traffic. I only drive about once per week, so I was a little on edge anyway.  Plus traffic was bad and I had to quickly merge through the traffic, across several lanes to the road that I needed.

All of a sudden (while I was trying to merge across the lanes!), horrible screaming and crying started coming from the backseat!  I found myself trying to drive while also trying to figure out what on earth was suddenly wrong with Ethan and why he was hysterically crying.  Finally he calmed down enough to talk, and I realized that he was upset because he particularly liked one song on our new CD, and that song had ended. Three-year-olds are a little dramatic...

The hysteria-inducing song was one from a new kids' CD by Monkey Monkey Music with Meredith LeVande, called What Are the Odds? I thought the music on this CD was cute, and, obviously, Ethan loved it as well.  During most of the songs, Ethan happily sat in his carseat and swayed to the music and made his stuffed animals dance along. The CD is geared toward 2-7 year old kids, and is 46 minutes long.  Some of the songs on the CD are educational, like the title song "What Are the Odds", some are inspiring, like "Circle", and some are just totally cool and fun, like our favorite song, "Wheels".  I thought it was a great album and I liked the diversity of song lyrics and tempos that it contains.

Overall the CD is cheerful and full of energy and fun. You can hear samples from some of the songs by visiting this website. We have a car trip planned for this weekend, and What Are the Odds will be playing for most of our drive, I'm sure. Although I think I'll wait to press play until after I've safely merged onto the interstate...

What Are the Odds will be released on August 31 and is available at amazon.com, cdbaby.com and monkeymonkeymusic.com.

Good news! One of you will get to win a copy of this CD! Open to US/Canadian mailing addresses.

I learned that Meredith's music unifies groups young and old to jump "jump high", "shake it loud," and celebrate the topics that reference the lives and desires of young children while fostering connections between groups of people as a whole.
