A great charity and an easy way to help

This morning, as I dragged my chubby self around the Seattle Center for my jog, I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts, Manic Mommies. Seriously, the chance to listen to my podcasts is often the main thing that gets me out of bed in the morning! This week the Manic Mommies tackled a heavier topic than usual, domestic violence. Their guest to discuss this topic was a local woman, Kelly Starr from the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

One of the reasons that Kelly went on the podcast was to appeal for public help! The WSCADV (and other great non-profits) have teamed up with Major League Baseball teams to compete for grants in the Pepsi Refresh Program.  The WSCADV is, logically, paired up with the Seattle Mariners.  Here's their project idea- I think it sounds great. Kelly mentioned on the podcast how little funding is available for prevention programs like this one, so it could really use our vote.
The Mariners are competing against other MLB teams for a $200,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant. Their idea is to team up with the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence to mentor young male athletes and promote positive messages of honor and respect.

Go here to vote for this project- no registration necessary and voting can be done up to 10 times per day!  Voting ends on August 17, 2010.
