Congrats to my winner: Jenny
My daughter, Vivian, is now almost 14 months old and she's not just walking, she's running! Everywhere. And Ethan, who is weeks away from turning 3, is gaining confidence and no longer wants to stick close to me when we go out places. So going out with the kids is a little more stressful than it used to be, now that I have two little ones to keep track of all the time!
Enter a great solution to this problem- WeeSqueak shoes! I'm sure you've all heard of these shoes before- I'd seen them reviewed on lots of other blogs and thought they looked really cute. So I was excited to get the chance to test out a pair for myself. I REALLY wanted to choose a pair for Vivian- look how cute these little girl's shoes are!
And what about this Red Mary Jane with Daisy!
But, when I went and took a look at the kids' closet, I realized that Vivian has lots of shoes in her current size, while Ethan has outgrown all of his. So I turned my eyes over to the boys' section, which is also full of lots of great options.
I was very tempted by this Suede Two-Tone Mocha shoe
And by the Navy Fisherman Sandals
In the end, I settled on the Chocolate Tennis Shoe. My package arrived quickly in the mail, and we opened it up to find our stylish tennis shoes inside! Ethan decided that his stuffed animal needed to wear them first.
But then I got the shoes on Ethan, and the fun began!
As you can see, he was quite intrigued by the squeaking! I could hardly get him to take the shoes off again later in the afternoon, he just wanted to run around squeaking all the time. The squeak is fairly loud, so they aren't shoes that I would recommend letting your child wear for too long in a small space :) A few days after they arrived, Ethan wore the shoes on a trip to the zoo. The squeaks made it easy to keep track of him- and he got lots of attention as well! The squeaking shoes are particularly popular with teenagers and older kids- they kept making comments about how cool his shoes were.
If your child is wearing the shoes in a situation where squeaking isn't a good thing, then the squeaks can be disabled by pulling out the nozzle. When you're ready for squeaking again, just put the nozzle back in! I did end up breaking one of mine when pulling it out, so pull carefully! If you do break a squeaker or if one gets lost, replacements can be requested at the WeeSqueak website.
We're very impressed by the shoes and think they are made well and are very sturdy and fit Ethan well. Ethan has seemed comfortable in them every time he wears them, and they look nice too. I chose a pair with actual shoe laces, as I want him to get used to the idea of laces. But there are lots of WeeSqueak shoes that have the more typical velcro closures, so if you're not a fan of laces, there are plenty of other options.
WeeSqueak has so many great shoe options- I think you'll have a hard time not buying all of the cute shoes! But if you do buy lots of pairs, you'll be helping out a worthy cause as well as getting some great shoes, since WeeSqueak donates 5% of their profits (up to $1000 contribution per charity per year) to Half the Sky. This is a wonderful charity organization working in China- one my family also supports and feels strongly about. I love it when a company that I love works with a charity that I love!
