Congrats to my giveaway winner: laura20v
We've had some beautiful music playing in our home lately, thanks to the arrival of our newest CD- Cantilena: Night Songs from Around the World. Here's some information about this CD from its website:
Cantilena, the new release by classical guitarist Hilary Field and vocalist Patrice O’Neill, offers an evocative palette of night songs and lullabies from around the world. Spanning the globe from Romania to Sweden, Japan, Ireland, Argentina and beyond, the soothing multilingual vocals and rich musical arrangements highlight the lyrical and dynamic beauty of this music.
Cantilena, the follow up to the multi award winning Siente, also features the virtuoso acoustic duo Mike Marshall and Darol Anger, Grammy award winning English hornist Nancy Rumbel, as well as principal musicians from the Pacific NW Ballet and Seattle Symphony orchestras.
Even though this CD is "night songs and lullabies", I've been playing it a lot in the afternoon in my home. I find that the beautiful melodies and vocals help to bring some calm to our day, especially when the kids and I have all gotten too wound up! Every one of the fourteen songs on the CD is gorgeous in its own way, and I love the combination of music from different countries as performed by these very talented musicians. The songs on the CD come from all over the world, but they blend together to make a beautiful, flowing CD. I do have to turn the CD off sometimes when it makes me a little too soothed and calmed, so I imagine it would be wonderful for a child's bedtime as well!Cantilena is an Italian musical term for a smooth, flowing melodic line. These lyrical night songs and lullabies from world traditions and classical masters transcend generations, lending a blanket of calm in an often busy world.
You can hear samples of the songs on the Cantilena website, if you'd like to hear some of this beautiful music for yourself. I think this would be a wonderful gift for anyone who loves music, and a great addition to your child's bedtime routine- if you're willing to part with the CD!
