I'm going to have a bunch of great CD giveaways going on here at the blog in the near future- so stay tuned! Today I have the first of those reviews/giveaways for you- a new album by Keller Williams called Kids. And how cute is this album cover?
Long considered one of the most unique and prolific performers in all of rock and famed for his awesome multi-instrumentalist skills, Keller Williams has won the hearts and imaginations of a seething tide of young adults. Over the last seven years, Keller has sold more than 275,000 CDs, and he plays approximately 100 shows each year to an average of 800-1000 people/night. Major festival appearances in 2010 include Telluride Bluegrass, Mile High Music Festival, All Good, Smilefest, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, and more. This is the type of CD that I think of when I think of children's music. The songs are fun and upbeat- many discussing silly topics and things that are amusing to children. I was laughing before I even pressed play on the machine, thanks to the warning on the back cover of the CD that "the music on this album may not be suitable for uptight parents over 18." So you can't say you weren't warned!
With his sixteenth album, Kids, Keller creates a style of family music that’s all his own. For the album, Keller takes influences of traditional bluegrass, “Chester & Lester” innovative guitar technique, Robin Williams, and Bobby McFerrin and transports them to warp level. And though Keller’s virtuosity extends through his phenomenal instrumental technique and range of vocal styles and effects, he never allows his supreme musicianship to get in the way of the pure joy of the music.
Both my kids and I had fun listening to this CD and thought it was a really good one. Being a mom, my personal favorite song is "Because I Said So"- and I think most moms will agree with me about that being the funniest song on the CD. But I laughed at many other songs too and found myself humming along. The songs are silly and fun and perfect for kids. And Vivian decided that this CD was worthy of her doing a highchair dance while she listened and ate her snack, which is a sign of high praise from my 1-year-old.
For more information or to hear some of Keller Williams' songs, take a look at his website. Kids is available in stores and online on October 26. Click the link below for a free download of Car Seat, another fabulous song from this CD.
