I was contacted last month about participating in the Silk 10-Day Challenge and happily accepted. This challenge involved me replacing my regular dairy milk with one of the many Silk products. Typically we have a number of different types of milk in our house- whole milk for the kids, almond milk for my husband and 1% milk for me. But, given that I don't really like 1% milk that much, I tend to forget to drink it. Lately I've been realizing how little calcium I'm getting in my diet, thanks to my lack of drinking milk, and I knew I needed to do something about it. So it was a great time for me to try Silk!

For my first Silk product, I picked up the Silk Pure Almond milk in the Dark Chocolate flavor. And boy was it delicious! At least the one glass that I got to drink was delicious- Daniel drank the entire rest of the (fairly large) carton in the space of a day and a half. So that would be a vote of approval from me, and about 20 votes of approval from my husband. Pure Almond milk is made from whole, natural almonds and is verified non-GMO. Also, it has 50% more calcium than typical dairy milk, contains no saturated fat or cholesterol, and is a source of Vitamin E. All good things, in one delicious package. You can get Silk Pure Almond in Original, Dark Chocolate, Vanilla or Unsweetened.
After all the Silk Dark Chocolate Pure Almond disappeared from my fridge, I headed back to the store to pick up another carton of milk to try out (and this time I warned Daniel that it was hands-off!). This time I decided to go with Silk Soymilk, and purchased a carton of the Light Original flavor. I've tried soy milk numerous times in the past, but I've never been a big fan. So I was totally blown away by the taste of this soy milk- honestly, I had to keep checking the carton to make sure I'd really purchased the Light variety! The taste was so creamy and had just enough sweetness. And it's only 60 calories per cup! Silk Soymilk has as much calcium as typical dairy milk, no cholesterol and lower saturated fat than dairy milk. You can get Silk Soymilk in a number of flavor including: Original, Light Original, Organic Original, Vanilla, Light Vanilla, Organic Vanilla, Very Vanilla, Chocolate, Light Chocolate, Organic Unsweetened or DHA Omega-3.
In addition to the two types of Silk that we tried, you can also pick up Silk Pure Coconut in Original or Vanilla.
So, at the end of my 10 days of drinking Silk products, I have to say that my experiment is a success. I'm definitely consuming more calcium, I'm enjoying the taste, and I'm not adding lots of extra calories or fat to my diet. It's a win-win situation, in my opinion!
