As my readers who have been around for a while know, my husband and I just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. So it's not been too terribly long since I too was a happily engaged person, blissfully happy (if a bit stressed about wedding plans) and firmly convinced that Daniel and I had all of our issues figured out and that our marriage would be different- we would be the ones living blissfully in love forever.
All married people can take a break from reading now to giggle along with me at my ignorance. The truth is, Daniel and I do have what I would consider to be a very happy marriage, but life is complicated and issues and problems have come up during the past five years. And I know more will in the future. Fortunately we've been surrounded by a good support system and resources for our times of challenge. I know this isn't true for everyone though, which is why I wanted to share a new website with you guys- one called Start Marriage Right. Here's a bit about the site:
Falling in love with that special someone is one the most exciting times of your life! As you get to know each other better, our goal is to come alongside you with valuable and timely resources that will help you start your marriage right. If you’re already engaged and planning for the big day, CONGRATULATIONS!! You’ll be one of the TWO MILLION marriages happening over the next year.
As you think about preparing for marriage, what’s your biggest concern? You know, marriage is so much more than what flowers you’ll carry and the kind of cake you’ll serve at the reception. Have you thought much about the family that you’re marrying into and your extended family’s involvement in your relationship? What are their expectations and where will you spend your first Christmas together? How do you resolve disagreements and conflict? There is a way to work through differences, not walk away, and stay together. Wow, there’s so much to consider!
Startmarriageright.com is the one site that you’ll want to come back to over and over again to help answer these questions, as well as guide you as you prepare for marriage. There’ll be interesting articles, fun and insightful videos, as well as relevant links and other practical resources from marriage experts who have worked with other couples like yourselves.I've spent some time going through this site, and I'm very impressed by what I've seen. It's full of articles on a whole host of topics including sex, money, relationships, faith, and common issues. Although the site is geared to those headed toward or starting out marriage, I found that many of the articles were relevant to issues that face couples who have been married longer as well. There are Q&A sections for those who are dating, engaged or newlywed as well as blog articles and links to resources and books. It's not always easy to know who to go to when marriage hits a bump in the road, which is why sites like this are so valuable. If you're dating, engaged or newlywed- or perhaps even if you've been married for a while and are having some problems and don't know where to find help, definitely check out this site.
Remember your wedding day is just the beginning. You can have a lifelong marriage!
