Book review: My Stubborn Heart

I have no idea what went on in my home this past Tuesday night.  And I blame a new book that I got for review, one titled My Stubborn Heart. I picked it up early on Tuesday evening, planning to just read the first few chapters, and closed it late on Tuesday night, having read the entire thing. Here's a bit about this fantastic book (from a talented new author, Becky Wade):

Kate Donovan is burned out on work, worn down by her dating relationships, and in need of an adventure. When her grandmother asks her to accompany her to Redbud, Pennsylvania, to restore the grand old house she grew up in, Kate jumps at the chance.

Upon her arrival in Redbud, Kate meets Matt Jarreau, the man hired to renovate the house. Kate can't help being attracted to him, drawn by both his good looks and something else she can't quite put her finger on. He's clearly wounded--hiding from people, from God, and from his past. Yet Kate sets her stubborn heart on bringing him out of the dark and back into the light... whether he likes it or not.

When the stilted, uncomfortable interactions between Kate and Matt slowly shift into something more, is God finally answering the longing of her heart? Or will Kate be required to give up more than she ever dreamed?
I loved everything about this book. The main characters are fantastically written and seem like people that I would be friends with if they existed in real life.  And the secondary characters and storylines are just as great.  This book has romance and laughter and friendships and stories of forgiveness and living life after tragedy.  I especially like that, even though this is a Christian novel and has strong elements of faith and discussions of God, the characters never came across as fake or "holier than thou".  I really hope that Mrs. Wade is already at work on her next book- I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more books!

If you're a fan of Christian contemporary romance novels, definitely check out My Stubborn Heart. And be sure to not start reading it until you have a large block of free time ahead of you- you're not going to want to put it down!

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the publisher, Bethany House, to review for myself. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions posted here are mine and mine alone.

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing My Stubborn Heart, Carrie! When a reader tells me they couldn't put the book down, that's the best report I can receive. I'm delighted that you enjoyed it!!

And yep, I'm already hard at work on more. The next one's finished and in the pipeline. The one after that is waiting for me when I return home from vacation. :)

Warmly, Becky
