Movie review: Disney's Frozen

*Disclosure: My family received passes to attend a screening of this movie to review it for ourselves. All opinions posted here are ours and ours alone!

We had the opportunity to attend an early screening of Disney's newest movie, Frozen, last week and since then I have pretty much lead every conversation by saying "You know that new Disney movie called Frozen? Go see it!"

Here's a bit about this movie:
  • Walt Disney Animation Studios, the studio behind “Tangled” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” presents “ Frozen,” a stunning big-screen comedy adventure. Fearless optimist Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) sets off on an epic journey-teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven-to find her sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf (voice of Josh Gad), Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.
My family includes a dad in his 40s, a mom in her 30s, a 6-year-old boy and a princess-crazed 4-year-old girl. And we all universally loved the movie. As did everyone else in the theatre with us.  During the movie there were cheers, laughter and at the end, a huge round of applause.  The movie has great graphics with scenery that pops off the screen (literally, if you see it in 3D, which I recommend). The music is fun and the amazing Idina Menzel and the adorable Kristen Bell do a wonderful job with their songs.

My son does not like bad guys in movies, so we appreciated that there was no big villain in the movie.  Just some humans with varying degrees of trickiness! I loved the fact that this movie turns the typical princess romance/rescue story on its head and has a great message about sticking up for yourself and those you love,  not waiting for a prince to rescue you.

The story is a little serious in parts, but the humor from Olaf the snowman added laughter to every scene that he appeared in.  He definitely stole the show and has been the part that my kids have talked about ever since.

This is a great holiday movie that my family is already asking to see again- I think you'll love it too!
